Don't miss our spectacular 'Jungle Book' production . . Tickets still available !

See poster below for details

Our January 2013 production is to be the children's classic 'The Jungle Book' by Rudyard Kipling, and we're offering TWO MATINEES this time around - both Saturday and Sunday!

India is often described as a sub-continent and it has its own unique wildlife-mix, inspiration for Kipling's tale, first published in 1894.

We are aiming for a stylish, atmospheric production that is NOT a remake of the Disney film. The script is much closer to the original book. Gone are the elephants and the vultures to be replaced by new characters like Tabaqui, the jackal and Buldeo, the hunter, who appear in the original. But don't worry. We have found space to include a few of those much-loved Disney songs.

What is striking about this adaptation by Stuart Paterson, is its strong 'sense of danger'. Not only does Mowgli have to deal with the predators in the wild, he is also threatened by treachery from within the man-village and, in this script, Shere Khan is truly a frightening creation - which he should be. Richard Kinnaird, who plays the tiger role, has been scaring the pants off us since the auditions! For this reason we are suggesting an ideal audience age of 6 years and over.

So we hope to keep to the spirit of the original Kipling story whilst retaining some of the music and fun that you usually associate with our January performances.

The box office is OPEN

Tickets as above or by email.  Just copy the text below, edit and send to rtgbookings@hotmail.co.uk to give us your requirements and we will normally get back to you within 24 hours (and usually much faster).

The show must / The snow does - go on!

We've had a bit of snow in Ravenshead. This is how we got lighting equipment to the Village Hall as road conditions were not good for driving!

Elementary My Dear RYTG

Ravenshead Youth Theatre Group took Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson to the 2012 NANDA Youth Theatre Festival and were complimented by the adjudicator for their portrayal of Victorian London.

Held at Chilwell Olympia Theatre on May 19th, the NANDA event brought together the very best Youth Theatre Groups in Nottinghamshire in a one-act play competition. RYTG presented "The Baker Street Kids - The Case of the Riverbank Chase" by Dave Buchanan as a fast-moving finale to the one-day festival. The play tells the tale of how a gang of street urchins, known as The Irregulars, help Sherlock Holmes to solve one of his cases.

Welcome to the Ravenshead Theatre Group website; we hope you find something to interest you.

The Ravenshead Theatre Group was established in about 1967 in the village of Ravenshead, 10 miles north of Nottingham.  Over the years, we have become a reputable amateur dramatics group who perform about three productions a year.

Within the locality, we have built upon our reputation for providing good quality entertainment and are particularly proud of the achievements we have made in producing pantomimes. The other productions each year are a varied mixture of one act and two act plays, both comedy and serious.

With “wonderful enthusiasm” and even some talent, we enjoy prancing on the boards as we attempt to delight the populace around by doing on stage what others would be considered quite mad to do in any other public place.

We have a large wardrobe of costumes and may be able to assist other groups.  See the costume hire page for details.

Over 60 people are members of the group including the Youth Group. We are a mixed bunch of individuals with an amazing range of obsessions, passions and capabilities.  In addition to members who perform, there are talented technical crew who make the productions come alive.

Rehearsals are most Wednesday evenings at the Brammer Room in the Ravenshead Village Hall, Vernon Crescent, Ravenshead, from 8pm until about 10pm.  The evening invariably continues in the Sherwood Ranger, Chapel Lane, Ravenshead, until last orders.

So, if it’s acting, backstage, front of house or the technical aspects you’re interested in then please do join us by contacting a member directly or sending us an email for more information.
